Artists add a stroke of creativity to park scene

Street artists are an integral part of the lively scene at Union Square Park. However, the city is currently proposing new regulations that would limit their number in the park to just 18, with the spaces allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. Under the new rules, if any artists had a dispute over a particular spot, all the artists involved would be evicted from that space. Street artists are fighting the proposal, but the Union Square Partnership BID and others say the park’s southern plaza is so crowded with artists and vendors that it’s almost impassable.
